Family holidays

Created by Anne one year ago

Dear Dad, thank you for the summer holidays we went on as a family. The excitement of buying the special summer comics we would take away with us, the endless searching for buckets, spades and bats and balls to play games in the park and on the beach, buying new sun hats and sunglasses, looking forward to new places and experiences which rarely failed to meet expectations.

You always packed the car meticulously, deciding whether or not the roof rack was needed and planned the journey carefully, writing out the directions in your bold, neat handwriting. We played pub cricket on the way to while away the journey and ate our ready prepared picnic, made just before we left.

Exmouth, Sandown on the Isle of Wight, Manorbier in S Wales, Northumberland, to name a few. We travelled altogether in the Ford Cortina, Sue in the front on the bench seat with you and mum, Steve, Chris and me in the back.

In the last week of the holiday we could each choose what we would do as a family while there was always great excitement on the last night, that was always spent in the arcade, with a collection of pennies.

Good Times and Lovely Memories.
